Humanities and Arts Lecture and Workshop on Research Publication

The Willson CenterJosie Dixon and the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences will sponsor a lecture on research publication at 10:30 a.m.  Wednesday, April 2 in room Q (second floor) of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education.

Josie Dixon, publishing and research training consultant for Lucian Consulting, will lecture on “Academic Publishing in the 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities in the Humanities,” covering the state of the market for scholarly publications, online publishing, open access and more with opportunities for questions and discussion. Dixon has lectured and led workshops at leading universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Princeton, and Stanford. The lecture is free and no registration is required. Faculty and PhD students in the humanities and arts are invited to attend.

Dixon will also lead an afternoon workshop from 1 – 5 on publishing scholarly monographs in the humanities. The workshop is packed with insights into editors’ decision-making and strategies for maximizing the chances of publication in a competitive climate.

Faculty in the humanities and arts interested in the afternoon workshop should email a one-page proposal to the Willson Center at wcha@uga.edu by February 14 that outlines their current research project as well as questions that he/she hopes to address during the workshop. The cost of the workshop is provided by the Franklin College and the Willson Center, but space is limited to 12 participants. Faculty will be notified by March 4.
