UGA Arts Collaborative / Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities

The UGA Arts Collaborative/Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities Faculty Research Cluster is focused on generating competitive project proposals in the arts, humanities, and social and environmental sciences. The UGA Arts Collaborative supports programs that contribute to the culture of interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration at UGA including seminars, workshops, and events related to research in the arts, entrepreneurship, and the goals of UGA membership with the Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities (a2ru).

a2ru

The Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities (a2ru) is a partnership of more than 40 institutions committed to transforming research universities in order to ensure the greatest possible institutional support for interdisciplinary research, curricula, programs and creative practice between the arts, sciences and other disciplines. It is committed to supporting the growing body of high-quality scholarly and creative production most attainable when disciplines are free to experiment within and across their boundaries. UGA’s membership in a2ru is made possible by the UGA Arts Council, the Office of the Provost, the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, the Lamar Dodd School of Art, and the Office of Research through the Willson Center.

a2ru’s research has a hub on the web, which provides details on organization, next-generation collaborative infrastructure, and a dynamic home for work produced.

Graduate Assistantships in Interdisciplinary Arts Research

The University of Georgia offers Graduate School Assistantships to students entering programs in Art, Music, and Theatre and Film Studies following a highly qualified student’s nomination by their home department. These competitive, merit-based awards support collaborative research between the arts and other disciplines. Recipients of these assistantships work in a cohort of graduate students with the UGA Arts Collaborative, an interdisciplinary initiative for advanced research in the arts at UGA.

To be considered for a Graduate School Assistantship, applicants must provide a one-page statement to their home department’s Graduate Coordinator. The statement should describe the applicant’s current research interests and any previous training and experience in interdisciplinary or collaborative programs and environments. Nominees will be reviewed by an interdisciplinary selection committee.
