Global Georgia Initiative – Mellon Foundation Grant Funded Programs

A major grant from the Mellon Foundation has enabled the Willson Center to expand its Global Georgia Initiative, a public humanities program in place since 2013. The Global Georgia Initiative engages the humanities and arts in exploring global issues of public concern in a diversity of local contexts, serving audiences at UGA and throughout the Athens community.

The grant-funded expansion of the initiative is focused on three areas: connecting its visiting speaker programs to curricular and experiential learning activities addressing large-scale humanities questions at UGA (Global Georgia Program research projects); bolstering existing off-campus public humanities collaborations (Humanities in Place); and a statewide symposium for the humanities to provide a platform for the sharing and dissemination of humanities research and priorities by members of the statewide academic community (Georgia Humanities Symposium).
