Legacy gift from Virginia Mary Macagnoni will support Willson Center Faculty Research Fellowships
The Willson Center has received a gift of over $300,000 from the estate of Virginia Mary Macagnoni, a dedicated champion of the humanities and arts who was one of the first women to be hired by UGA as a full-time professor when she arrived at the university in 1967 to teach in what is now the Mary Frances Early College of Education. The bequest has established the Virginia Mary Macagnoni Prize Fund to support the Willson Center’s Faculty Research Fellowships.
“Virginia was a friend to all, and a longtime supporter and board member at the center,” said Willson Center Director Nicholas Allen. “We are thankful for her generosity, her vision and legacy to support our Faculty Fellows.”
Virginia Macagnoni passed away on September 22, 2023 in Athens. You can learn more about her remarkable life and career in this profile from the University of Georgia Foundation.
