The residency is part of Culture and Community at the Penn Center National Historic Landmark District, a partnership between the Willson Center and St. Helena, South Carolina’s Penn Center.
The Willson Center and the Office of Global Engagement are offering up to two visiting fellowships for arts and humanities-engaged faculty to visit Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich for two weeks during LMU’s 2023-24 winter semester.
The Willson Center’s annual Global Georgia series of public events began in February and continues throughout the spring. Its calendar includes authors and filmmakers; digital humanities innovators and environmental humanists; academics and poets; an indie rock veteran and a soprano diva; and the directors of both the Modern Language Association and the National Gallery of Art.
The University of Georgia presents its first Humanities Festival, a series of public events showcasing the richness and diversity of research and practice in the humanities at UGA and throughout our extended community. The festival is organized by the UGA Humanities Council.
Culture and Community at the Penn Center National Historic Landmark District hosted its first student research residencies last spring, and a second round will be held this May.
The office of Multicultural Services and Programs has gathered a broad selection of university initiatives and programs in celebration of Black History Month
Brown’s week in residence will include a master class with students in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, and public events in the Hodgson School and the Delta Innovation Hub.
Susan Rosenbaum, associate professor of English at UGA, has been awarded the 2022 Modern Language Association Prize for Collaborative, Bibliographical, or Archival Scholarship with her partners on the digital scholarly platform Mina Loy: Navigating the Avant-Garde.
The Willson Center invites nominations from faculty and students for the 2022-23 Delta Visiting Chair for Global Understanding.
As the new head of the DigiLab, I am excited to continue to build on our work at UGA and beyond. With support from the Office of Global Engagement and the Willson Center, this summer I had the opportunity to expand our connections to Munich, Germany, where I presented a workshop and lecture at Ludwig Maximilians University.
The Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities (a2ru) national conference in Ann Arbor, Michigan, an online event celebrating the publication of the new book “Critique Is Creative,” two Idea Lab conversations, and a major honor for UGA Professor Jenna Jambeck.
The 2022 American Conference for Irish Studies / SOUTH will take place December 2-3, 2022 in Athens, with plenary events free and open to the public.
The conference theme is “Border Crossings,” and it will feature two public plenary conversations, a public reading, and roundtable panel discussions. ACIS members can register here to attend and participate in the panel discussions.
The Dec. 2 plenary conversation will feature Geraldine Higgins, Emory University (Moderator); Peter O’Neill, University of Georgia; Kerry Neville, Georgia College; Lisa Godson, National College of Art and Design; Annie Fletcher, Director, Irish Museum of Modern Art; and Howard Keeley, Georgia Southern University.
The Dec. 3 plenary panel will feature Nicholas Allen, University of Georgia (Moderator); Marilynn Richtarik, Georgia State University; Caoimhe nic Dháibhéid, University of Sheffield; Eve Patten, Trinity College Dublin; John O’Brennan, Maynooth University; and Kim Mawhinney, Senior Curator of Art, Ulster Museum, National Museums NI.
The Dec. 3 evening closing event will feature readings by novelist Rónán Hession and poets LeAnne Howe and Adrian Rice. The full program is available here.
Registration is free for students, adjunct and faculty with less support, and $50 for everyone else. All attendees must register if they plan to attend the panel discussions. The plenary events are free and open to the public. Further speakers may be added to the program as conference plans are finalized.

The 2022 Spotlight on the Arts festival begins November 1 and continues throughout the month with a rich calendar of events celebrating the literary, visual and performing arts. The Willson Center’s contributions include an evening with Athens photographer Christy Bush to celebrate her new book FAMILIAR; a conversation with the artist, musician and filmmaker Jay Bolotin; a roundtable with faculty and graduate student recipients of the university’s Arts Lab Fellowships; and many more public events and programs.

Students and faculty from the University of Georgia, Spelman College, Morehouse College, Emory University, the College of Charleston, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of Kentucky gathered at Penn Center on St. Helena Island, SC for a five-day cycle of research residencies.
In partnership with Georgia Humanities and Savannah State University, the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts hosted the third Georgia Humanities Symposium, a national conversation on the public humanities, at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center in Savannah, Ga. on Friday, October 14, 2022.
