Screening - "Aya of Yop City" @ Gilbert Hall, Room 118

In colorful animation and accompanied by an eclectic mix of vibrant period music, Aya of Yop City tells the stories of a group of adolescents growing up in 1970s Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The film was directed by Marguerite Abouet and Clément Oubrerie, the co-creators of the popular comic book / graphic novel series on which it is based. Aya will be shown in French with English subtitles.

Abouet will take part in a public conversation with French-African filmmaker Alain Gomis at Ciné on October 26, which will include a book signing with Avid Bookshop. That event and the Aya screening are co-sponsored by the French Consulate in Atlanta, the Willson Center, and the department of Romance languages.
