Henry Kaiser – “Under Antarctic Ice in Words, Film, & Music”

Henry Kaiser has successfully integrated research science, cinematic arts, and music throughout his long and varied career. His Antarctic cinematography and soundtracks for several Werner Herzog films and his pioneering work as one of the first wave of American improvisational guitarists has brought him a Grammy win and an Academy Award nomination.

In celebration of the UGA Odum School of Ecology’s 50th Anniversary, as part of the spring 2017 Slingshot Festival. and with the support of the Willson Center, we have a rare opportunity for Kaiser to share his passions with the Athens community by creating a live musical soundtrack while simultaneously narrating his high definition underwater film footage from Antarctica. Professor Emeritus James Porter (Ecology) and Professor Brad Bassler (Philosophy) present Kaiser as a prime example of the powerful integration of scientific literacy, boundary-pushing art, and critical thinking.
