Chuck Searcy to Present on Vietnam Explosive Ordnance Disposal at Ciné Sept. 27

Chuck Searcy, a founderChuck Searcy of The Athens Observer, a local weekly newspaper that was last published in the 1990s, has spent nearly the past two decades engaged in humanitarian work in Vietnam. He now works with Project Renew to remove unexploded bombs, mines, and other ordnance left behind from the American war, during which he served in U.S. military intelligence.

Searcy returns to Athens for a fundraising presentation on Project Renew’s efforts at 7 p.m. Friday, September 27 at Ciné, 234 W. Hancock Ave. in downtown Athens. He and his colleagues Ngo Xuan Hien and Luong Tuan Hung will give a talk with Q&A and video at 7 p.m. in the CinéLab. The event is co-sponsored by Flagpole magazine and the Willson Center.
