The 2013 EcoFocus Film Festival opens March 20 in Room 101 of the Miller Learning Center with a free 7 p.m. screening and discussion of Switch, “a balanced, solutions-based, and inspiring film about energy.” The remainder of the festival’s screenings and events take place at Ciné, 234 W. Hancock Ave. in downtown Athens, through March 24. The mission of EcoFocus is to inform and inspire audiences about environmental issues through film. Its primary activity is the annual film festival, which features engaging and often award-winning films from around the world presented with dynamic speakers, panel discussions and events. Films selected for EcoFocus reveal the planet’s beauty and the environmental challenges facing this and future generations, and highlight inspirational stories about people working to protect the environment and its inhabitants. EcoFocus was initiated by the Eugene P. Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia in 2007.It is supported in part by a Willson Center Public Impact Grant.
